Nimrod Maseko – Winner
“The nominated driver is the eldest amongst the group of truck drivers in our employ. Firstly he is illiterate, however he always strives to fulfil all daily compliance requirements like completing his daily trip-sheet, his pre-inspection sheets and all related paperwork without fail.
When presentations are conducted regarding safety standard operating procedures, he always obeys all the given rules & regulations and he always reports any defects of the truck which may easily cause road accidents or near misses. Above all, when his truck has a breakdown on site; he willingly jumps into his mechanical mode to help the mechanics with the diagnosis or repair that may be necessary.
He is a man who always shows high regard for management and also motivates his fellow colleagues at sites to check their paper work for underloads/overloads. He is an asset that makes logistics such a seamless function within the supply chain. During the year 2021, he has already been selected as the driver of the month twice on a set criteria which he excelled in.
He is an employee who always makes even his fellow colleagues to understand the essence of time and punctuality at work because he says that he understands that his salary is only generated “when wheels are turning” and he therefore feels proud at the end of each month when the company pays him and he is able to do what any father would want to do for his family.”
Other Entry Highlights
“Aaron started his career at Unitrans on the 12 December 2011. He is a responsible, experienced driver who takes pride in his work and is courteous, reliable and meets and exceeds his daily operational targets and deadlines. He is a dedicated member of a team of 12 and he does his best to ensure that the customer’s and company’s needs are met.
Even though meeting collection and delivery times are important, he prioritizes safety above all else, taking necessary steps to ensure a safe work environment for himself and fellow colleagues. He pays close attention to detail, from tripsheets to POD’s, to keep business on track. When a problem arises, he does not shy away from accountability, but assists to help me solve them.
For example, yesterday he made his way to the customer to load but when he arrived he advised me that the tensioner on the tarpaulin of the trailer was defective as the pin had come loose hence the curtain will not open. This would have resulted in having to return back to the depot empty hence a loss of revenue.
However, given his vast knowledge and experience and knowing “his vehicle” he was able to repair the mechanism on the tensioner and successfully and safely loaded the vehicle back to the Depot saving me money on the repair. The quality of his work, commitment and timely service is what sets him apart from the typical driver. I believe he is the ideal candidate who takes initiative and strives to help the company grow hence he should be awarded this prize.”
